LinkedIn & Professional Profile

A short, practical guide to creating a professional LinkedIn profile for radiographers at any career stage.

LinkedIn & Professional Profile

A LinkedIn profile can help radiographers build a professional online presence, connect with colleagues and recruiters, and discover career opportunities. This short guide takes approximately 5–10 minutes and covers the essentials: why LinkedIn matters, how to build your profile, examples to adapt, how to connect professionally, and a final checklist.

Why LinkedIn Matters

LinkedIn can help radiographers:

  • Build a professional online presence.
  • Connect with radiographers, educators, recruiters and other healthcare professionals.
  • Discover job opportunities and career information.
  • Share professional learning, achievements and relevant projects.
  • Explore clinical, academic, research and industry career pathways.
LinkedIn is useful but not compulsory. It does not guarantee employment and does not replace a CV, cover letter, professional registration or direct job applications.

Build My Profile

Follow these five steps. You do not need to complete every profile section — focus on what is relevant to your career stage.

Step 1: Profile Photo

Use a clear, professional photograph. A formal studio photograph is not essential — a well-lit, head-and-shoulders photo with a neutral background is sufficient.

Step 2: Headline

Your headline should identify your professional role, main area of interest and relevant expertise. Examples:

  • Student: Radiography Student | Diagnostic Imaging | Developing Clinical Skills
  • New Graduate: Newly Qualified Diagnostic Radiographer | Patient-centred Imaging
  • Experienced Radiographer: Diagnostic Radiographer | CT | MRI
  • Specialist: CT Radiographer | CT Angiography | Clinical Practice
  • Educator: Radiographer | Clinical Education | Student Support
  • Industry: Radiographer | Clinical Applications | Imaging Technology

Use only qualifications, registration status and skills that are accurate. Do not describe yourself as registered or qualified before this is formally confirmed.

Step 3: About Section

This is a short professional introduction. Include:

  • Current role or career stage.
  • Main clinical or professional interests.
  • Relevant experience or learning.
  • Career interests or goals.

"I am a diagnostic radiography student with an interest in patient-centred imaging and developing safe, effective clinical practice. I am keen to continue learning, strengthen my technical skills and contribute positively to a multidisciplinary healthcare team."

Adapt this example to your own circumstances.

Step 4: Experience and Education

  • Add relevant employment, clinical placements and education.
  • Use clear role titles and dates.
  • Describe responsibilities and achievements honestly.
  • Include relevant qualifications and professional registration details where appropriate.

Step 5: Skills and Additional Information

Add relevant skills, courses, professional memberships, presentations, publications or projects where applicable. You do not need to complete every profile section.

Connect Professionally

LinkedIn is most useful when you connect with the right people in a professional way.

  • Connect with colleagues and former classmates.
  • Follow professional organisations, employers and relevant educators.
  • Contact professionals politely when seeking career information.
  • Keep messages brief, respectful and specific.

"Hello [Name], I am a radiography professional interested in [area]. I came across your profile and would be pleased to connect and learn more about your work. Thank you."

Privacy and professional boundaries: Do not share patient-identifiable information, confidential workplace information or images without appropriate permission. Respect the privacy of colleagues and patients at all times.
