Job Searching

A short, practical guide to searching for radiography jobs effectively and tracking your applications.

Job Searching

A focused job search starts with knowing what type of role you want, where to find vacancies, how to search effectively, how to review opportunities, and how to track your applications. This short guide takes approximately 5–10 minutes.

Prepare for My Job Search

A focused job search starts with knowing what type of role you want and what you are eligible to apply for.

Distinguish between:

  • Roles you can apply for now.
  • Roles you may be eligible for after completing a qualification or registration process.
  • Roles requiring additional experience, training or registration.

Do not assume you have completed your qualification or obtained professional registration unless this is confirmed.

Where to Find Jobs

Use more than one source to discover vacancies. Each card below explains a different job-search channel.

A. Employer Websites

Hospitals, imaging centres, universities, healthcare companies and other employers may advertise vacancies directly on their own careers pages. Check the employer's website regularly.

B. Public Healthcare Recruitment Websites

Public healthcare organisations often advertise through official recruitment systems. In the UK, the NHS Jobs website is an example — recruitment systems differ between countries.

C. General Job Websites

General job boards can help you discover vacancies across hospitals, private imaging providers, industry and education. Verify vacancies on the employer's official website before applying.

D. Professional Networks

Professional organisations, colleagues, educators and LinkedIn may help you learn about vacancies and career opportunities. Not all jobs are advertised on LinkedIn.

E. Recruitment Agencies

Agencies may recruit for temporary, permanent or specialist roles. Check the agency's identity, understand the terms and verify the employer and vacancy.

F. International Opportunities

International job searches require additional checks: professional registration or recognition, qualification requirements, work permission or visa eligibility, language requirements, and relocation and employment conditions. Check the relevant official regulator or government source for current requirements.

Search Smarter

Using different job titles and keywords helps you discover more relevant vacancies.

Practical Search Tips

Search using more than one job title.
Use location and distance filters.
Check full-time, part-time, permanent and temporary options.
Set job alerts where available.
Check closing dates.
Read the full job description, not only the title.
Search employer websites as well as job boards.
Save vacancies that may be suitable later.

No particular keyword will return all relevant vacancies. Use multiple search terms.

Check Before Applying

Before applying, review the vacancy carefully.

Essential Criteria

Requirements you must meet to be considered for the role. Compare your own experience with these before deciding whether to apply.

Desirable Criteria

Requirements that would strengthen your application but are not mandatory. Do not automatically reject yourself because you do not meet every desirable criterion.

Always read the full vacancy information and follow the employer's application instructions.

Track My Applications

Keeping a record of job applications helps you stay organised and follow up effectively.

Job-Search Safety

Verify the employer and vacancy.
Be cautious if asked to pay money to secure a job.
Do not send passport, banking or other sensitive documents to an unverified recruiter.
Be careful with unexpected job offers and requests to communicate through unofficial channels.
Check recruitment terms before agreeing to agency work.

Not every agency or overseas vacancy is fraudulent — but always verify before sharing sensitive information.
